Should You Build Your Own Shelves

I would ike to know why would somebody be involved in DIY shelving when they can simply run down to the neighboring hardware depot and acquire something already made? Is installing your own shelf truly the best way to go?

More or less everything I’ve constructed has been a special design in one way or another. One of our children required shelves on top of her bed that would suit her Barbie dolls in a specific way. The end result was in her exact selection of colors, the precise dimension she wanted, and with the exact mix of cubes and open shelving. Purchasing that in a warehouse would most certainly been mission impossible. Because of this, you could install oak white shelves by yourself.

It’s a lot more affordable to build your own shelves. In case I’m designing something usual, like a regular bookcase, I toil the project around the dimensions of a standard wood panel and certify that the pieces are cut in a special way, which gives me extra wood for other projects. Compared to the price of purchasing a similar bookcase in the shop, I consistently put away quite a bit of cash.

And I don’t at all times need to get new wood. One of my existing constructions is a storage space unit which fits about and above the toilet in the children’s bathing room. I’m creating it out of an old cabinet that a neighbor was throwing out. Including the hardware, the full thing will run me about $13. Beat that if you can. And for a second time, this isn’t a standard project, it’s constructed to measure for particular dimensions and I just couldn’t just go out and purchase a finished item that would take advantage of the space.

Besides saving some cash and saving our lovely trees, I get a marvelous sense of pleasure from making my personal glass corner shelves and storeroom projects . I have a little woodworking room in a backyard tool shed and I find it very soothing to spend an hour or two out there getting inventive. It’s real quality time, and even the little one likes making use of real tools instead of his toy set. The girls also learn safety and responsibility, it’s a winwin situation for everyone!
